The refrigerator/freezer control module (electronic control board) is the main unit that manages the appliance. It receives signals from temperature sensors, door switches, and the defrost system, then turns key components on and off - such as the compressor, fans, defrost heater, air dampers that direct cold air, and the display/alarm functions.
This allows the module to maintain the set temperatures in both the fridge and freezer compartments, control No Frost operation, run defrost cycles, and protect the compressor from overload. If the board fails, typical symptoms include unstable temperature, the compressor not starting or running nonstop, a fan not working, ice buildup, error codes on the display, or alarm beeping. Diagnosis usually includes checking the power supply, connectors, and sensors; repairs may involve replacing relays/components on the board or installing a new module.
