A heating element (Heater) in a washing machine is the part that warms the water to the temperature selected for the program. It sits in the tub area and converts electrical energy into heat, allowing the machine to maintain stable water temperature during washing.
The control board switches the heater on and off based on feedback from the temperature sensor, so the detergent works properly and the wash results stay consistent. If the heating element is faulty, the machine may not heat the water, washing times can increase, error codes may appear, or the program may stop. Common causes include scale buildup from hard water, corrosion, or a burned-out element.
