A position sensor (often a Hall sensor) in a washing machine is a component that detects the motor/tub position and rotational speed. It monitors changes in the rotor’s magnetic field and sends a signal to the control board.
Using this data, the electronics precisely regulate drum speed during washing and spinning, manage smooth start/stop, and detect faults (for example, if the motor can’t reach speed or runs unevenly). If the sensor fails, you may see error codes, jerky drum movement, no spin, or the program may stop.
