An oven function selector switch is the control that lets you choose how the oven operates (top/bottom heat, convection, grill, etc.). Depending on the knob position, it routes power to the required heating elements and circuits, with temperature then controlled by the thermostat or electronic control module.
If the switch fails, some functions may not turn on, may work incorrectly, cut out when the knob is turned, or you may notice sparking or a burning smell, and the oven may not heat. The usual fix is to check the connections and replace the selector switch with a compatible part.
