Oven heating elements and the grill are the main parts that generate heat for cooking. Most ovens have a lower (bottom) and upper (top) element, while the “grill” function uses a powerful top element (sometimes with a fan) for browning and forming a crisp surface.
Typical faults include: the oven not heating or heating weakly, one function not working (for example, bottom heat only), slow preheating, tripping the breaker/RCD, visible cracks or blisters on the element, or clicking/sparking when switched on. Common causes are a burned-out element, poor terminal contacts, a faulty function selector switch, thermostat, or control module.
Fixes usually involve checking the power supply and connections, measuring the element resistance, and replacing the faulty heater/grill element with a compatible part. Always unplug the appliance before any work.
