An oven thermostat is the temperature control component that keeps the oven at the set heat level. In many ovens it’s a mechanical thermostat with a capillary sensor (bulb) inside the cavity; as the temperature changes, it opens or closes electrical contacts to cycle the heating elements on and off. In electronic models, temperature control can be handled by a sensor plus the control board, but the purpose is the same: stable, accurate heat.
Common problems include inaccurate temperature (too hot or too cold), overheating, long preheat times, the oven not heating at all, or the temperature fluctuating widely. Typical causes are worn contacts, a failed capillary sensor, loose wiring, or sensor/control faults. Repairs usually involve checking connections and replacing the thermostat with a compatible part.
