An oven/cooker temperature sensor (thermosensor) is the part that measures the temperature inside the oven cavity and sends a signal to the control module. Based on this reading, the electronics switch the heating elements on and off to maintain the set temperature and protect against overheating. Most modern ovens use an NTC sensor (thermistor), though other types exist on some models.
Common fault symptoms include overheating or not reaching temperature, unstable operation in different modes, noticeably changing cooking times, error codes on the display, and heaters switching off too early or not switching off at all. Typical causes are an open circuit or short in the sensor, poor connector contact, damaged wiring, or less often a control board issue.
Fixes usually involve checking connectors and wiring, measuring the sensor resistance, and replacing the temperature sensor with a model-compatible part. Always unplug the appliance and let it cool before any work.
