Water filters in refrigerators (for ice makers and water dispensers) remove sediment, chlorine taste/odor, and some impurities to improve water quality and protect the valve and dispenser system from buildup. Depending on the model, the filter is installed inside the fridge compartment, in the base grille, or inline behind the unit.

Typical issues and fixes:

  • Slow flow / weak dispensing: replace the filter (often the most common cause), check for kinked supply tubing, and confirm the shutoff valve is fully open.

  • Bad taste/odor after replacement: flush the system by dispensing and discarding several liters of water (follow the manufacturer’s guidance).

  • Leaks at the filter: make sure it’s fully seated/locked, check O-rings for damage, and use the correct compatible filter type.

  • Ice maker not filling: a clogged filter can restrict flow, also check the inlet valve and water pressure if replacing the filter doesn’t help.

Maintenance: replace filters on schedule (commonly every ~6 months, but it depends on usage and water quality) and reset the filter indicator if your model has one.
